I denne eminente årgang 2017 stikker den fra alle hverdags-konkurrenterne med powerfyldt frugtsmag og delikate krydderier.
Vinen er faktisk lavet på druer fra marker, der stammer delvis fra skråningerne ved foden af Mont Ventoux. Til prisen er det her et rasende godt Rhône-køb!
Dyster mørklilla i glasset med en herlig aromatiske næse, der straks tryllebinder næsen med koncentrerede røde frugter, lakrids, trøfler og et urtet strejf af middelhavskrydderier. I munden rammer Ventoux den helt rigtig balance mellem friskhed og frugtig generøsitet. Smagen domineres af violer, hindbær, sorte kirsebær og blommer, der strammes godt til at tanninerne i den lange finish. Drik nu, eller gem 5-8 år fra høståret.

It never forgives weakness and extracts an unfair tribute of suffering.” This formidable example of a red made in France’s southeastern corner of the Rhône is like the mountain that looms above, a strong mocker with great depth of fruit. Ventoux, from the word Venteux, meaning windy and a wine of power and grip from the micro-climate and also the majestic limestone beast that stands 1912m above. You just can’t separate the wine from the hill and Xavier delivers the goods with this compendium of fruit, mineral and swagger. Drink 2022-2026. Last tasted May 2021.”

“Here's an easy-drinking, rounded and quite fresh Cotes du Rhone with tannins nicely shaved and generous fruit. Often inexpensive Rhones can be starchy and earthy on the finish but this covers off with good fruit sweetness, without being "sweet". The nose is classic Rhone plum/strawberry jam, some lavender and pepper. It is warm, plush and pleasant. Very good to excellent length. A light chill would work here. Tasted May 2021”

“Silky, supple tannins are provide the framework for this nicely evolved blend of 50% syrah, 30% grenache and 20% mourvedre. Peppery and floral with cassis compote on the palate. Drinking well now although a slight chill probably wouldn't hurt and would help tighten the fruit. Tasted May 2021.”

“Very pretty and regionally accurate Ventoux rouge aromatics here, covering dried Mediterranean herbs, pot pourri, dried floral tones and terra cotta, scorched earth and licorice, and more. The palate is in good shape, balanced and toned, with lightly dusty-grainy tannins and good length, finishing with succulent, saliva-inducing acids. All in all, a lovely drop of wine for the money. “This is a tasty southern Rhone red with a midweight palate of red berry fruit well balanced by lively acidity with a dry tannin finish. Expect aromas of red cherry and raspberry fruit with mild spice and floral notes. Good to very good length. Try with a juicy burger. Tasted July 2019.”
En oplagt vin at hive frem til saftige bøffer, lam, burgere, gryderetter samt charcuteri og cremede oste.  Nydes ved mellem 15-17°C.
Vinen er produceret på et klassisk Rhône-blend af 50% Grenache, 30% Syrah og 20% Mourvédre. Druematerialet bliver høstet fra næsten 100 år gamle vinstokke, der ligger placeret del på skråningerne ved foden af bjerget Mont Ventoux, dels på kalkholdige terrasser 250-400 meter i den berømte bjergkæde Dentelles de Montmirail. I vineriet søger winemaker, Xavier Vignon, at opnå kompleksitet i vinen ved at lade alle tre druesorter gærer sammen. Efter endt gæring bliver vinen modnet frugtbevarende på tanke, mens 5 % syrah lagrer 1 år på små franske barriques.


Om producenten
Xavier Vignon er kendt som en af stjerne-winemakerne i Rhône. Hans evner i vinkælderen har gjort ham til en eftertragtet herre i hele Rhône og han yder nu assistance til mere end hver anden producent i Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Til gengæld belønner de andre winemakere Xavier med druer og partier af vin i høj klasse.

Xavier har igennem en årrække udforsket, hvordan mineralske salte påvirker vinen. Han udvælger markplaceringer der, hvor jorden har en høj koncentration af mineralske salte. Man må sige, at hans metoder virker og han tryller gang på gang vine frem, der begejstrer vinelskere over hele verden.
